Types Of Insulating Fluids
A liquid-immersed transformer is generally used outdoors due to concerns over oil spills or fi res if the oil reaches its fl ash point level. Recently, new insulating liquids (e.g., silicone fl uid, FR3) have been developed with a higher fl ashpoint temperature than mineral oil, and transformers with such liquids can be used indoors. However, it is important to note that these less-fl ammable liquid-immersed transformers have higher initial costs relative to their dry-type counterparts, preventing their widespread market adoption.
For transformer applications, silicone is ideal because of its heat stability, material compatibility, low fl ammability, and low toxicity. Silicone’s high fi re point of 340 oC makes it a less fl ammable fl uid that is UL Listed and factory mutual approved for indoor and outdoor applications. It is ideal in locations where fire hazards are present and special fi re-suppression systems are in place.
The FR3 dielectric fl uid is fully biodegradable and environmentally friendly. It is appropriate for indoor use and for areas with high environmental sensitivity where any spilled insulating fl uid could require extensive cleanup.
Minimum And Specific Dimensions
There are two confi gurations for deadfront design: minimum dimensions and specifi c dimensions. The minimum dimensions cover minimum bushing spacing, bushing height, and compartment depth. In contrast, the specifi c dimensions cover dimensions other than the minimum ones while considering the installations, maintenance, and ease of connections.
Note: The reference dimensions in this table cover the following: livefront and deadfront configurations, loop feed and radial feed, mineral oil and FR3 filled units.
Dimensional Variations
Height Variations
1. Add 9.00 inches (228.6 mm) to the height when using bayonet fusing on all kVA ratings.
2. Less flammable natural esther fluid requires deeper tanks on some transformer ratings.
3. Add 2.00 inches (50.8 mm) to the depth of kVA ratings 75–1500. Add 8.00 inches (203.2 mm) to the depth of kVA ratings 2000 and 2500.
Integrating Pad-Mounted Transformers Into Your Distribution Substation
Building a resilient medium-voltage network requires seamless synchronization between your outdoor transformers and indoor switchgear control rooms:
Upstream Protection: To safeguard your loop-feed configuration against transient faults, you can pair this unit with our high-end Indoor High-Voltage Vacuum Circuit Breaker to achieve instantaneous short-circuit interruption.
Substation Alternatives: If your project faces strict urban footprint constraints where a concrete pad installation is impossible, explore our fully integrated Compact Substations for an all-in-one distribution alternative.
1: What is the capacity range and efficiency standard of Clelek’s three-phase pad-mounted transformers?
Our three-phase pad-mounted transformers cover a wide rated capacity range from 45 kVA up to 2500 kVA (and custom solutions up to 5000 kVA). Every unit in this product line is meticulously engineered to meet DOE 2016 energy efficiency standards, ensuring minimal core losses and lower long-term operational costs for your utility network.
2: Can I choose eco-friendly insulating fluids for indoor or environmentally sensitive installations?
Yes, you can. While standard mineral oil is highly cost-effective for typical outdoor commercial power distribution, we offer premium FR3 dielectric fluid and silicone fluid options. With high fire points (FR3 and silicone reach over 300°C and 340°C respectively), these less-flammable, fully biodegradable liquids are UL Listed and Factory Mutual approved, making them ideal for your indoor layouts or zero-tolerance eco-sensitive areas.
3: What is the structural difference between minimum dimensions and specific dimensions in your deadfront design?
When you specify a deadfront design for your project, we offer two layout configurations. Minimum dimensions strictly cover the mandatory clearance requirements, including standard bushing spacing, bushing height, and primary compartment depth. In contrast, specific dimensions extend beyond the bare minimums to give your field technicians extra spatial clearance for easier cable connection, safer routine maintenance, and smoother tool maneuvering.
4: Do your transformers support customized configurations for Bitcoin mining and renewable energy?
Absolutely. We possess extensive experience tailoring units for demanding environments. For crypto mining infrastructure, we provide specialized 415V (Y-configuration) load-side transformers optimized for high harmonic loads. For solar farms and wind plants, we engineer heavy-duty step-up transformer systems designed to withstand the cyclic power fluctuations typical of renewable energy generation.
5: What technical details should I provide to get a wholesale B2B quote from Clelek?
To ensure our engineering team delivers an accurate quotation and lead time within 24 hours, please submit your required kVA rating (e.g., 500 kVA, 750 kVA), primary voltage (up to 34.5 kV), secondary voltage (e.g., 208Y/120V, 480Y/277V), feed layout (Loop feed or Radial feed), and front configuration (Dead-front or Live-front).
